Website chat
Put your AI agent on your own website: same knowledge, same inbox, with your team one click away.
Website chat puts the same agent that answers on WhatsApp and your other channels on your own website. Visitors chat in their own language, the agent answers from your knowledge and catalog, and every conversation lands in your Waslo inbox next to WhatsApp, where your team can take over at any time.
Turn it on
- Open Integrations → Website chat (or pick Website chat in the channel step of setup).
- Under Allowed website origins, enter each address the chat will run on, one per line, with
https://— for examplehttps://example.com. Add thewww.address separately if your site uses it. The chat refuses to load anywhere else. - Switch Enable website chat on and save.
Plans: website chat is included in Growth. On pay-as-you-go it unlocks once for 1,000 credits, and each reply then uses credits like any other channel. Importing website pages into your knowledge base is free on every plan.
Install it on your site
Copy the snippet from the Website chat settings and paste it just before the closing </body> tag of every page. It looks like this:
<script src="https://waslo.org/waslo-widget.js" data-site="YOUR-SITE-ID" defer></script>
The script is served from waslo.org, a domain used only for the chat, so code on your site never runs on Waslo's dashboard domain, and the other way round.
Where to paste it:
- Shopify: Online Store → Themes → Edit code →
theme.liquid, just before</body>. - WordPress: your theme's footer, or a header-and-footer plugin.
- Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and most site builders: the site-wide custom code setting, in the body or footer position.
- Your own code: any layout that wraps every page.
Optional attributes on the same tag: data-locale (for example ar; by default it follows your page language), data-color (button colour as #rrggbb), data-position (auto, left or right; auto follows the page direction), data-offset (distance from the bottom, 0–100 px) and data-theme (light or dark; by default the panel matches your page).
Your page loads only a small button. The chat itself loads when a visitor clicks it, so it does not slow your pages down.
What the agent knows
The agent answers from your prompt, your product catalog and your knowledge base, as on every channel, with one rule: website visitors are anonymous and public, so they only see knowledge you publish to website chat.
- A document set to All channels & numbers (catch-all) reaches website chat only when Also answer website visitors with this document is ticked under it.
- A document with a specific scope reaches website chat when Website chat is ticked in its channel list.
You can also scan your website from the Website chat settings: review the pages found, then import the ones you choose as a knowledge document, as products, or both. A workspace can run up to 3 scans a day. For live prices and stock, connect your store instead — a store connection is more reliable than reading web pages.
Visitor details
Before a new visitor's first message, the chat can ask for their name, email and phone. Choose the fields, and whether they are required, under Ask new visitors for in the Website chat settings.
A visitor who leaves details becomes a lead you can follow up and sync to your CRM. Anonymous visitors are never sent to HubSpot. Details typed into the form are not verified, so a match with an existing customer is only ever offered as a merge suggestion, never merged automatically. Later conversations from the same browser belong to the same lead, so the agent remembers what it learned. In your inbox and leads list, a visitor shows as Website visitor, with the email or phone they left.
Your team in the chat
A visitor can ask for a person at any time, and the conversation is handed to your team as on any other channel.
- Take over a website conversation before replying; the agent pauses for that visitor. Resume the agent when you finish.
- Owners and admins can take over from a teammate who already accepted the conversation. The change is recorded on the lead's timeline.
- Assigning a teammate only routes the request; it does not take over the chat.
- Visitors see your display name, never your full name or email. Set it in Settings → Account → Name shown to website visitors. Without one, visitors see your first name.
Appearance and help articles
In the Website chat settings, set the greeting, colour, an HTTPS logo, the light, dark or device theme, the button side and its distance from the bottom. Preview, then save. "Powered by Waslo" appears on every visitor screen.
You can publish up to 10 plain-text help articles. Visitors search them from the chat's home screen. They are public and separate from the agent's knowledge files.
Closing, history and ratings
The window's X only hides the chat. Resolve conversation closes the thread for good once pending replies finish; owners, admins or the responsible teammate can also resolve it from the inbox. Messages stay stored, and a new conversation starts a separate thread.
The same browser can reopen past conversations for 30 days, renewed whenever the chat opens. Clearing browser storage, or switching browser or device, starts fresh for the visitor; your records are not deleted.
If ratings are on, a closed conversation that had at least one agent or team reply asks for a 1–5 rating and an optional comment. Owners and admins see the ratings report in the Website chat settings. Satisfaction counts ratings of 4 or 5 out of all submitted ratings.
Limits and privacy
- Daily AI reply limit (default 300 a day): past it, new visitors go to your team with your handoff message, and owners and admins get one notification. Set 0 for no limit.
- Bot check: new visitors pass an invisible check before a session starts.
- Delete anonymous visitors (default 180 days): visitors who never left a name, email or phone are deleted that many days after their last message, with their conversations. Visitors who left details are leads and are kept.
- No tracking: the chat sets no cookies and loads no analytics or advertising tags on your site. It keeps one visitor token in the browser so the same visitor can return to their conversation.
- Scan results are deleted after 30 days; anything you imported stays in your knowledge base.
Test it
Open your site in a private window, start a chat and ask something your knowledge covers. Then ask for a person and check that the conversation appears in your inbox as needing your team.
