Importing Leads

Bring existing contacts into Waslo via CSV upload or two-way Google Sheets sync, with column mapping and per-number routing.

Already have a list of contacts? Import them into Waslo so your AI agent can follow up, or turn them into an outbound Campaign. Import from a CSV file or sync directly from Google Sheets.

Two ways to import

MethodDirectionBest when
CSV uploadOne-time, into WasloYou have a spreadsheet export to bring in once
Google Sheets syncTwo-way (dashboard edits push back)You keep a living sheet and want it to stay in sync

Both live under Integrations → Lead Import.

Plan note: CSV Import and Campaigns are a one-time credit unlock on PAYG (1,000 credits each) and are included on Growth. Once unlocked on PAYG, they're yours with no monthly recurring charge.

Importing from CSV

  1. Open Integrations → Lead Import
  2. Download the sample CSV to see the expected format
  3. Fill in your contacts (or export from your existing tool)
  4. Upload the file and map your columns (see below)
  5. Review and confirm — leads are added to your dashboard

The importer is lenient: rows with minor gaps still import, and it recognizes common header names in both English and Arabic, so you rarely have to rename columns by hand.

CSV format

A minimal file needs a name and a way to reach the contact:

ColumnRequiredExample
nameRecommendedSarah Ahmed
phoneRecommended+971501234567
emailOptionalsarah@example.com
Assigned NumberOptionalSales
  • Include a header row.
  • Phone numbers work best in full international format (e.g. +971…).
  • Extra columns you add are kept as lead details — nothing is thrown away.

Column mapping

If your headers don't match Waslo's fields exactly, the import step lets you map each of your columns to a Waslo field. Common and Arabic header names are matched automatically; you only adjust the ones Waslo couldn't guess.

Per-number routing (Assigned Number)

Add an optional Assigned Number column to route each imported lead to a specific WhatsApp number or session. This is useful when different numbers handle different teams or regions — for example, sending sales leads to your "Sales" number and support contacts to "Support". Leads without an assigned number fall back to your default.

Syncing with Google Sheets

Google Sheets sync is two-way:

  • Leads in your sheet flow into Waslo.
  • Edits you make in the Waslo dashboard push back to the sheet.

The push-back is fire-and-forget by design: if Google Sheets is unavailable, your dashboard is never blocked or slowed — the update simply syncs when the sheet is reachable again.

To set it up:

  1. Open Integrations → Lead Import and choose the Google Sheets option
  2. Connect the sheet and confirm the permissions
  3. Map your sheet's columns to Waslo fields (custom mapping is supported)
  4. Waslo matches rows back to the sheet using a Lead-ID column, so dashboard edits land on the right row

You can also route per-number by including an assigned-number column in your sheet, the same way CSV import does.

After importing

Imported leads can be:

  • Added to your Inbox so your AI agent can follow up in conversation, or
  • Turned into a Campaign — a bulk outbound send to a segmented list (see the Campaigns doc).

Best practices

  • Clean your data first — consistent international phone formats and one contact per row import most reliably.
  • Import opt-in contacts only — only bring in people who agreed to be contacted. This protects your sender reputation and keeps you compliant with channel rules (especially WhatsApp).
  • Start with the sample — download the sample CSV and match its shape to avoid mapping surprises.
  • Use Assigned Number early — routing at import time is easier than reassigning leads later.

FAQ

Do CSV and Sheets support Arabic headers? Yes. The importer recognizes common Arabic header names as well as English, so mixed-language sheets usually map automatically.

Will editing a lead in Waslo change my Google Sheet? Yes — Sheets sync is two-way. Dashboard edits push back to the matching row. If Sheets is temporarily down, your dashboard keeps working and the change syncs later.

Does importing cost credits? CSV Import is a one-time unlock on PAYG (1,000 credits) and included on Growth. Importing the contacts themselves doesn't consume per-lead credits; sending messages to them (for example via a Campaign) uses credits per message under normal rates.

Can I send to imported leads right away? You can add them to your Inbox or build a Campaign. Only message contacts who opted in.
